Laboratory Manager
We are seeking a highly motivated, proactive Laboratory Manager to join Professor Coles and Professor Buckley at the Kennedy Institute, University of Oxford, to work within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford.
 
You will assume responsibility and pro-actively oversee on a daily basis all aspects of laboratory work, cleanliness and waste disposal to ensure the working environment is optimal for efficient and safe working, as well as manage laboratory running costs, budgets and be responsible for the efficient use of equipment, exploring new avenues involving the reduction of running costs. You will regularly update the Group Leaders (Professor Buckley and Professor Coles) on relevant practical and financial aspects of laboratory activities and advise on the non-staff expenditure from the various grants and maintain appropriate financial records.
You will supervise new staff and students and be responsible for their training and acquisition of multiple laboratory skills, ensuring that their work is carried out properly, as well as teach methodologies to post-graduate students and troubleshoot when technical problems arise.
 
You must hold a first degree in life sciences or related field, or equivalent vocational qualification, or equivalent experience in laboratory management and have experience in day-to-day running of a biomedical laboratory. You will have excellent organisational and management skills as well as good spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to write text that can be published, present data at conferences, and represent the research group at meetings. The ability to work well alone or as part of a team, experience of training and mentoring junior members of the team and students and good knowledge of University Health and Safety policies is essential. Knowledge and experience of Internet-based ordering and invoicing system and iPassport is desirable.  
 
This is a fixed-term, full time position until 30/04/2024.
